From Crunching Numbers to Building Dreams

When Jeanne Bolz decided to open her own accounting firm, Bolz CPA, in Fort Collins, Colorado, she brought decades of experience in tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, and financial strategy. “I’ve always loved numbers,” Jeanne says. “I love solving puzzles and helping people feel confident about their finances. But when I started my business, I quickly realized that running a firm requires so much more than just being good at your craft.”

STRATEGIC DELEGATION

Prior to moving to Colorado, Jeanne ran her own CPA business in Minnesota for 29 years. After this extensive experience advising her clients, both through her business and as a volunteer at her local Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Jeanne launched Bolz CPA knowing that she would need to recruit experts to help. She decided to get serious about delegation. “If it wasn’t something only I could do, I found someone better suited for it. And that changed everything,” she says.

First, she found a realtor to help her lease a space, then a marketing expert to help build the website. Lastly, she networked until she found a great IT firm to manage the technology. This gave her the capacity to focus on what she does best in order to lead the business with clarity and purpose. She also spoke with multiple bankers to find the adequate funding.

Support That Made a Difference

Although Jeanne had a 30-year relationship with her bank, as an early-stage business, she faced challenges securing a line of credit through traditional channels. Before opening her doors, Jeanne reached out to her local SBDC. With their guidance, she was introduced to B:Side Fund.

Through B:Side Fund’s CLIMBER loan program, in partnership with the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA), Jeanne was able to secure the capital needed to cover essential expansion costs. This gave her the flexibility to grow the firm without compromising quality or stability. Since receiving the loan, revenue has increased 33%.
